NOVEMBRE 1997, WCW SAIMAS SCREWJOB:

World War III è alle spalle: Scott Hall vince la "Three Ring 60 Man Battle Royale" conquistando una shot al WCW World Title da sfruttare in futuro e più precisamente a Superbrawl VIII, PPV che si terrà a Febbraio 1998.

Le attenzioni però sono tutte rivolte verso il "nuovo" Sting, che da mesi compare con i capelli lunghi neri ed un face-painting che richiamano il Corvo, cult-movie uscito pochi anni prima. Il silenzioso Sting ha ottenuto un match titolato contro il WCW World Champion, e Leader della NWO, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, incontro che dovrebbe tenersi a Starrcade 97, il PPV più importante dell'anno in casa WCW.

Sempre a novembre del 1997, in casa WWF è avvenuto uno dei fatti più controversi e discussi della storia del pro-wrestling: il famigerato Montreal Screwjob ai danni del WWF World Champion Bret Hart, che aveva già firmato per la WCW rischiando di portarsi la Cintura nel "Regno di Ted Turner".

Bret Hart è così l'ultimo grande colpo della WCW, che deve consolidare il suo momento d'oro con una storica edizione di STARRCADE, ma qui iniziano a girare delle voci contrastanti: Hollywood Hulk Hogan usando il suo potere nel backstage non sarebbe intenzionato a perdere pulito contro Sting inscenando una sorta di Screwjob, con Bret Hart a ripetere a parti inverse quanto accaduto la sua ultima sera in WWF, così da proteggere il più possibile il Leader della Stable bianco-nera. Ted Turner, discutendo con dei bookers della WCW, è convinto che Sting abbia bisogno di una vittoria legittima, inevitabilmente "riempita di Overbooking" ma comunque netta e chiara visto lo svilupparsi della Storyline tra il "Vendicatore" e il Gruppo di Manipolatori. Arrivati ad un punto morto, Ted Turner decide di rischiare per provare a dare alla WCW il definitivo salto di qualità: viene chiamato come head-booker Saimas, che non pensa due secondi a dire che le cose dovranno andare come vuole lui, nonostante la maggior parte dei Top Names in WCW abbia la clausola di "libertà creativa".

Poca diplomazia insomma ma per rischiare bisogna andare fino in fondo.

Saimas arriva quindi in WCW ai primi di Dicembre del 1997, pronto a bookare il suo primo episodio di WCW Nitro, a meno di un mese dal PPV più importante dell'anno. Quello che trova è un "backstage" spaccato a metà e compito del nuovo Head Booker non è solo quello di regalare ai fans degli eventi indimenticabili ma anche di far tornare la serenità dietro le quinte.

Grazie a tutti quelli che mi seguiranno in questa nuova avventura: mentre stò bookando il terzo mese di gioco, nel primo post di questo Diario aggiornerò costantemente il Roster della WCW con una riga sullo status di ogni worker così che anche voi abbiate un'idea approssimativa della situazione.


Devo dire che per ora sto guadagnando popolarità ad ogni show ma il difficile arriverà quando perderò, quasi sicuramente, il contratto in PPV con la Time Warner. Per quanto riguarda le teste di cazzo, sto già dando una bella regolata allo spogliatoio ed è già arrivato uno dei licenziamenti più prevedibili


A dire il vero è più semplice di quanto si pensi: mi è stato chiesto di non assumere lottatori con "stile" Cruiserweight, quindi i vari "Luchador" (Rey Mysterio Jr.), "Technician" (Dean Malenko) e Japanese Junior (Ultimo Dragon). Il problema grosso è che due miei pezzi pregiati sono classificati come "Cruiserweights" ai quali scadrà il contratto entro due anni quindi non potrò rinegoziare con loro. E saranno due assenze personalmente pesanti, ma bisognerà anche vedere se questo Diario terrà fino a quella data

I limiti valgono sia per le nuove assunzioni che per i rinnovi di contratti in scadenza

WCW MONDAY NITRO, prima settimana di dicembre 1997:

Tony Schiavone & Dusty Rhodes & Bobby Heenan, il team di Commentatori della WCW, hypano il primo match della serata che vedrà protagonisti due lottatori della Cruiserweight Division: Rey Mysterio Jr. contro Juventud Guerrera.

SINGLE MATCH:

vs

Discreto match tra questi due giovanissimi lottatori seppur non riescano a scaldare molto il pubblico... vittoria pulita di Rey Mysterio Jr. dopo circa dieci minuti con una Super Hurrincarana

WINNER: REY MYSTERIO JR.

Rey Mysterio Jr. a fine match sfida il WCW Cruiserweight Champion Eddy Guerrero ma a rispondere è Chavo Guerrero Jr. che affronterà il babyface mascherato nel prossimo episodio di Monday Nitro.

Backstage: i Blue Blood, ovvero Steven Regal, Chris Adams e Dave Taylor, si scontrano verbalmente con Fit Finlay al quale viene "offerto" sarcasticamente il ruolo di paggetto... per tutta risposta il nord-irlandese Finlay attacca i tre heels inglesi che però riescono ad aver la meglio, soprattutto grazie alla superiorità numerica.


Promo: Il New World Order al gran completo, con Eric Bischoff, il WCW World Champion Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Buff Bagwell, Scott Hall e Kevin Nash in primo piano, insultano Sting e The Giant, i due più pericolosi antagonisti della Stable ed entrambi messi fuori gioco nelle ultime settimane.


Backstage: l'N.W.O. continua la sua opera di annientamento rivali attaccando in massa Lex Luger con Buff Bagwell che assesta il colpo finale al Total Package.

SINGLE MATCH:

vs

Vittoria facile e netta per Chris Benoit che ha la meglio su Kidman via "German Bridging Suplex". Kidman comunque tiene testa al babyface nei primi minuti "elevando" anche grazie a lui la contesa ad un C- di valutazione

WINNER: CHRIS BENOIT

Il RAVEN'S FLOCK è tutto attorno al quadrato ad osservare Kidman ancora al tappetto mentre Chris Benoit sfida la Stable ad entrare nel ring e affrontarlo ma Raven ordina ai suoi "adepti" di fare un passo indietro e lasciare che il babyface possa raggiungere il backstage incolume.

Un dolorante Lex Luger raggiunge il WCW Commissioner J.J. Dillon per confermare la sua volontà di salire comunque sul ring contro Buff Bagwell ma l'Autorità, nonostante le molte insistenze del babyface, obbliga il lottatore a farsi visitare in infermeria posticipando ufficialmente la contesa prevista tra i due rivali.

J.J. Dillon sale ora sul ring per la firma del Contratto che ufficializzerà il match a Starrcade tra Larry Zbyszko ed Eric Bischoff valido per il controllo di WCW Monday Nitro. Il primo a firmare è il leggendario babyface di origini polacche che rimane sorpreso quando a prendere i fogli del contratto è Eric Bischoff il quale rivela di non aver mai detto esplicitamente che sarebbe stato lui a lottare quel match... Larry Zbyszko a Starrcade affronterà... RANDY "MACHO MAN" SAVAGE arriva sul ring e attacca Larry Zbyszko che però viene salvato da RIC "THE NATURE BOY" FLAIR. Il Nature Boy, dopo l'assalto riuscito, ritorna nel backstage assieme a Larry Zbyszko portando con sè i fogli del contratto... WOOOOOO!


Tony Schiavone & Dusty Rhodes & Bobby Heenan hypano il Main Event della serata: Diamond Dallas Page contro Curt Hennig con in palio l'United States Title in mano all'heel della N.W.O.

THE MAIN EVENT:



SINGLE MATCH:

vs

Main Event da C+ che vede Diamond Dallas Page arrivare vicinissimo alla vittoria pulita ma il babyface non riesce a connettere la decisiva Diamond Cutter perchè l'intero N.W.O. entra nel ring e attacca il lottatore costrigendo l'arbitro alla squalifica di Curt Hennig che, seppur sconfitto, non perde lo United States Title.

WINNER BY DQ: DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE

L'N.W.O. continua l'assalto su Diamond Dallas Page, ennesima vittima della Stable. Al termine del beatdown fanno il loro debutto DAVEY BOY SMITH & JIM NEIDHART che si presentano con le magliette della N.W.O. andando quindi ad abbracciare tutti i membri della Stable. I due neo-arrivati rivelano che BRET "THE HITMAN" HART debutterà in WCW la prossima settimana e lo farà da MEMBRO DELL'NWO ma sarà lui a spiegare tutti i motivi di questa scelta... appuntamento tra sette giorni!
